So, when steering left to right or back i hear a thud as i cross over dead center. Not a good sound. Any ideas?

Check where your drag link connects to the tie rod and see if it is hitting your sway bar bracket

It feels like the teeth in the steering rod are binding. Is it fixable? Is replace and upgrade the only option? I'm going wheeling tomorrow for the weekend.

Ok, let me rephrase, isn't there a joint in the steering rod? It feels like it's binding as i cross center.

Yes....there is.....and it could be. Is it bad binding? Like how noticeable?
