I have Historic tags on mine while I"m working on it and I was told by a cop friend of mine that I can drive it when LEGALLY friday starting at 1800(6 PM) thru Sunday at 2359 (11:59) or when taking it to the shop or other speical occasions. Then he told me off the record that as long as I dont do it regularly they dont care but the will use it as an excuse to pull you over if they have a question or need a better look at something. But all in all just be smart about it and it should be fine.

As for the Insurance I have state farm and am only paying $86 for 6 months with historic plates when I get the daily use plates it will be about $268 for 6 months now I do have it listed as a second car.

I resemble that fact

I have driven more vehicles with historic tags than I have had inspected and tagged. I have NEVER been pulled over with historic tags.
And what's wrong with Sun (bright) Yellow?!?

EDIT: when I do get around to putting the longarms on the XJ, will have that switched over to Street Rod Tags

I was told I have a leak in the engine manifold that causes some of the rough idling.
To add to the possible leak scenario, causing a rough idle - it would def cause a loss in mpg, at least 1-2 on the minimum.

a good tune up with fresh stuff under the hood is a good way to spend $100 and know that those parts are good/not causing your problems.

how do you qualify for street rod tags?

oh yeah, there is nothing wrong with sun bright yellow... just i would think that it would stand out on the highway and the po-po would notice it too...

Street Rod:
  • To qualify as a street rod, your vehicle must be 25 years old or older and must have been substantially altered from the manufacturer's original design.
  • Vehicles classified as street rod certifies the vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses. The vehicle owner further certifies the vehicle will not be used for general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways. You will need to fill out the Application for Historic or Street Rod Registration (form # VR-096).

Painting the XJ Dark Burgundy and Black. Can't stand that ugly silver paint job it has now, only thing it is good for is holding the rust in place

same with my tri-tone hood... its white, with a section of black... and the other side is grey cause that is the side that peeled off from the hose... stupid previous owner...

on another note... my jeep wont overheat offroading... and i find that surprising because the aux fan doesnt turn on... ever... and when i went with passt... the temp gauge almost went into the red lol but then back down... bottom line;

My aux fan was always on, even when I turned the key off. I ended up cutting the sensor wires, and finding an accessory wire under the hood. Now I can unplug it in winter, plug it in in summer and keep temps where they are supposed to be at.
