How soon you need them? Not even sure my tires will pass (for tread depth) but they are 265/75r15. I'm running my ride through MD inspect tomorrow hopefully, so they'll let me know. I'm also looking to get tires/rims...so I might be able to help. Keep us updated.

I'll have to see if my pops will let me borrow his truck to pick them up. They won't fit in my car.

Just got called into work for a teleconference so my boss can say "Happy thanksgiving" to us all. A little contradictory, I think. I'll PM you when I get home in case you want the wheels.

I have the exact same problem. I also concur with the possibility of a cracked head. I have an 89 4.0. All cylinders except for #2 have good compression. My oil pressure is 10-15 psi when warm. I am rebuilding another motor for it, since i know that i have a bad rod bearing, bad rear main oil seal, marginal compression on #2 cylinder, and various oil leaks.

I am sure dukie will chime in, but it sounds to me like it's rebuild time...

Have you been driving it like that? Do you think I'd be able to commute in it a few days a month until after winter?

How much $ do you think I'll spend on a rebuild? I'd be doing the work myself in my spare time.

This is only my opinion, and I am sure others on the forum will chime in. If your head is cracked, I would not advise driving on it, you are just inviting more problems.
Yes, I am driving on mine but it is only being driven less than 25 miles a week.

Depending on how far you go with a rebuild, it can cost a pretty penny. I had the block and head dipped, magnafluxed and the block bored/honed, head machined. Machine work was $500 and rebuilt kit $500.
When done, I should be able to get another 300,000 + on this motor, and I don't have to worry about warranties, ect. cause the job was done right the first time

Mike, any other costs associated with the job or is that basically it? I can basically have a new engine for $1k?

How many total hours do you think we are talking here? And did you pull the engine from the car to work on it or is it possible to do while still in?

It all depends on what the motor is going to require work wise. Do you need just rings/gaskets, or are you going to need a new crank/rods/pistons/ ect??? I have $1300 total in this rebuild, I bought another motor for the rebuild so I could still run the Cherokee. I'm going this route for the dependability factor, I could have just dropped the motor I bought in as is and probably gotten plenty of use out of it.
Rebuild kits can run up to $4-500 or more, machining costs would be dependant on shop labor costs in your area, what the block will require (it may just need to be honed which will be cheaper and you can do the honing yourself, or you may need to get it bored/sleeved which will cost more money), and if you need to get another head.
It can be rebuilt in the jeep, but again, that would be dependant on the condition of the cylinder walls and of course would be even cheaper still. I have done rebuilds with the motor in the vehicle, but did not get as much mileage off of it, and it can be a PITA.
My guesstimate of time would be +/- 2 weeks with pulling the motor, machine shop, ordering parts, putting it together and dropping it back in.
It would have been cheaper if I would have bought a reman, but as I said before, I know it will be done right
