After getting stuck at Frosty's the other week, I decided that I would really like to go up to a 4.5" lift with 33s and this seems like a less expensive way to get there.

When you check it out, looks case over really good around ears for cracks. That's where mine started (242), and it ran from there...

Green put himself on the hook to go up there with me, so hopefully he'll know if I'm getting duped or not.

- NP 242 - only option is a H&T sye. The Tom Woods kit is a stock output shaft that they put on a lathe to do the h&t. More exact perhaps, or better if you don't feel comfortable with doing it yourself, but exactly the same none-the-less....
- NP 231 - HD Sye (output shaft replacement with bigger, stronger unit), or H&T
you can use the front driveshaft behind the SYE without any issue. XJ shafts work up to around 4-5". A ZJ shaft will get you another couple inches beyond that.
the easiest way if you're doing a H&T is to leave the TC in the truck, make sure the front axle is clear, throw it in 4x4 lo, and reverse, and let it idle - slowly spinning the output shaft of the TC as you drill - that way you drill perfectly straight and in the middle of the shaft.
if you have a pre-96 XJ - you will also need to get a output shaft seal/bearing retainer since there is not an internal one on these models.

I'll try and get a sound clip in a bit of my bad one so you know what it should not sound like

Hey Ben I'm doing my lift next weekend and putting the TC from the '00 I bought yesterday into mine and pulling mine. I'll sell ya that one for like $75, nothing wrong with it and then you could pick up the Rugged Ridge HD SYE from PORC for 170. A little elbow grease and you'll have a nice '99 231J with a nice proper SYE in it.
