Default Maine camping

I see there is a few Maine members here.. i could use some info.

I had camped up in the North Woods for years but havent been there in a decade now. Started to plan a trip for this coming Fall and see they raised rates to...WOW.

I remember back in the day it used to be much cheaper. If i'm reading it right a non resident can expect to pay $20 per person per day to pitch a tent within the NMW boundaries. 10 for road use fee and 10 for camping fee..daily.

That means my group of four would fork over $400 for five days camped in primative sites. Or am i reading this wrong? I certainly hope so..

So, anyone want to turn me on to a remote scenic campsite on or very close to water for fishing? Something outside of Millinocket not subjected to the NMW fees or north and east of the NMW.. Eagle Lake maybe?

Is there any spots around Moosehead Lake where our group can feel secluded and not have to listen to other campers kids or cars driving by every 10 minutes?

I can return the favor and give you some of my favorite sites within the NMW and some up north just beyond. Feel free to PM if you dont want the info public.

Thanks in advance..
