Hello to you all. I am new to the forum and have experience with just a stock xj that my parent had back in the late 90s. I am looking for a quality "low" milage rig to use as a DD and for light wheeling and camping trips with the family (as soon as I can get rid of the Forrester). I have little to no mechanical experience (aside from basic maint.) so I hope to get an education from you all.

Welcome! You'll find some nice XJs out there for around 2 grand...now I don't know what you are thinking for low mileage, but if you find an XJ with 150k she is just getting broken in.
I picked up a nice one off the side of the road for $500, it has 221k miles and by the way it drives I wouldn't think twice about driving it across the country to Moab.

If you have a basic set of tools, including a Big hammer and some torx sockets you can do just about anything to your XJ, and if not I'm sure some of us on here wouldn't mind lending a hand.

Usually these old girls won't need much more than a good maintenance and going through, a lot of what I find seems to just be neglected fluids and whatnot. But because this is Connecticut you'll want to check the floors for rust too, not that it can't be fixed, but there are plenty out there with no rust that are great Jeeps to start with.

Thanks SnoPro, I see a few, for sale, with under 100k. I will be getting rid of an 2005 subaru forester with less than 70k. Honestly, the lower the miles the more my wife is on board. (I know, I know, grow a pair. But, a happy wife = a happy life.) My plan is to grab a reliable stock xj, preferable with leather, good heat and AC (i comute 65miles /day, mine as well be comfertable)

 

You'll want to look for a 97-01 Limited or country. That will give you all the leather and options a Jeep should have. As for heat and AC, XJs always work great when you keep up on them. The AC is way overkill, and the heat works better than most Jeeps, once the 4.0 is up to temperature of course.

Its the limited that I have been looking for, they seem to be pretty hard to come by though. I learned, thanks to a tread or two, that the seats from a Grand fit in the xj. Im ok with swapping out the seats later. seems like a simple enough job.

 

Yeah it's not a hard swap to do...obviously our XJs were made in a time where a limited model really was a limited production lol. Nowadays anyone can buy as many "limited" vehicles as they want

 

What's going on folks? I've been on the forums for 2 years now and haven't gotten into this thread to introduce myself. Name's Blake. Bought my first jeep 2 years back and have used this forum as a resource for almost everything that's gone wrong on my xj. I'm in the Naugatuck valley area, looking to meet up with some local jeepers. I drive a 00 xj with 31s and some other small mods. Haven't had a chance to really try her out yet :-( Not many places these ways to have a little fun. I'll be posting on here more often, hope to hear from you guys soon!
