Anyone from MA?
About to turn 21 and bought my first car two weeks ago. I could write you all a novel about drooling over jeeps for years but long story short I got a 99' cherokee now and can't wait start building on it. Paid 2400 bucks for it with 95k miles and took it to a mechanic for some stuff because I don't have the know how or the ability to work on it atm. I'm working in CT for the summer and have no tools and little time (Working that 9-5). I go to school at MIT and will be there in August and am looking for some wheelin' friends!
Things it needs now:
front rotors & pads
front u-joints
ball joints
bushings?
Needs the passenger mirror and fixing the power adjusting pad
driver side speaker doesn't work
fixing up the paint and a couple rust spots
Stuff I want to do:
(Recommend if you can)
4.5" lift - was thinking RE short arm kit??
shocks?? - bilstein?
tires - I want to go 33's - whats a good set?
wheels - Something cheap
bushwacker flats - Super expensive though
tinting the windows
ZJ front seats - maybe back seats too depending on height change
If anyone is around the southwest CT area or in the greater boston area and wouldn't mind throwing a helping hand I would really appreciate it. I'm pretty handy, but new to cars in general and especially jeeps. Done breaks and rotors and changed the oil on cars, but thats about it. Dad is buying me some tools for the 21st... couldn't be a better present. Glad to find this site and hopefully we can all have some fun.

As for tools...people will preach snap-on/blue-point till they're blue in the face. Just buy craftsman. For the at home mechanic, that's all you need, and the lifetime warranty is way better because you don't have to figure out the snap-on truck's schedule or make an appointment to meet the driver, or mail in anything...you just take you craftsman tool to sears or some Kmarts (maybe even ace hardware) and swap out your tool at the counter.
Good luck man. You'll never want anything else, maybe a wrangler, but still...(I have both).
Yes sorry! This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diW-...ature=youtu.be should help, basically the wire in the boot on the door is broken and you try to fish it out or run new wire to the other side of the door.
Uh, I need to know this myself. Can you post a link?
Rubicon Express is great. Bilstein's are a good choice. At 4.5" (and even some 3.5") you will need a sye (slip yoke eliminator) kit, so start saving. For the tires, will this remain your daily driver? If so, because of snow and ice, you may want to look at Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs or Cooper Discoverer STTs (Read their reviews). As for wheels, I pulled my Mickey Thompsons out of the junkyard, half buried in mud for $100. I spent 2hours scrubbing with steel wool after running them thru at a DIY carwash. Painted the next day with wheel paint ($8 rattle can). That was over a year ago, ppl think I bought them new still. There's a place in Chicopee called Gary's Jeeps. He's a crook for Wrangler sales, but he's been advertising a set of nice Black Rock wheels on craigslist for about $300 I think. BW flat fenders are also in my wish list. Just waiting for them to go on sale (cyber Monday is probably the best bet).

Pretty sure you need a shorter drive shaft. Just google the question and you'll find a ton of info on this site.

Without anyone giving up their secret spots does anyone know if junkyards around here generally have Jeep Cherokees that aren't completely stripped of everything? Looking to dig up some interior pieces.
Also, I hope that it is okay to ask this here but can anyone recommend a shop in Mass that does auto body repair especially on older vehicles? I need the T-Tops repaired on my other car and I'd like to have it done professionally.

Mashpee has been cracking down pretty hard lately only a few ways to squeeze back there now, I wouldn't even risk it honestly, but the coke plant is cool. Freetown state forest is pretty close too and legal
