Started playing around with my engine design programs. Going to have another camshaft made for my stroker. The cam in it works good now, I just have to rev it up. I came up with a better design to shift it's powerband down lower instead. I never rev past 5K anyways so the new designs powerband will be down at 1500-6K instead of it's current 2500-8K one. Increasing my centerline by a few degrees while dropping some lift and duration by approx 10-12° and dropping the lift by approx .010".

You think the current one would work with stock internals?
How much do they charge to churn up a new one?

Army brother works for Crower Cams. He'll grind me one for 250. All I got to do is give him the specs I want.

Not bad,
Can it be used with stock internals or does everything need to be upgraded?

Only way a camshaft can't be used with stock pistons is if the lift it too great, the valves would hot the pistons. Also, higher pressure valve springs are required whenever you go over a certain size lift to prevent valve float. My springs now will support up to a .500 lift camshaft and I'm currently at .480

Now, when you have computer controlled ignitions like our Jeeps (both 4.0L and 2.5L), you're kinda limited on your cam size when using a stock ECU. But you can kinda get around this by playing with your centerline and duration settings (when selecting or designing).

Cool Another day, another crazy noise

God I love my jeep but it's been something else that needs worked on every week. It's 25 years old and hasn't been driven much in the past 10 years until now. So I'm having to work out a few problems to turn it into my DD
OUTLAW thanks again for helping me out the other day, but now whenever I turn left something pops in the front driver side. Sounds like my jeep is popping its knuckle. Just one pop every time I turn left. Let me know if y'all have any ideas.
Thanks!

So what would you recommend if I were to have your new set up camshaft?
New camshaft, new higher rate valve springs, and what else?

What would help the most is if you can get someone to turn the wheel while you examine your front end components...
As you mentioned the xj hasn't been Used in aWhile, it could be that old bushings are showing their age and may need replacing...

My cyl head is already modified but generally, the head has to be machined at the valve spring seats to achieve a certain installed valve spring height. I would recommend new valves over the old ones & New valve springs and retainers. Basically, a whole new cyl head.

Now for a bone stock engine like yours. 505 Performance has a Stage 1 camshaft that will give you a little extra pep (be realistic and don't expect 50 or so hp from just a camshaft without other work) and will work with stock valve train and sensors. Remember, I don't have a 2.5L anymore or stock sensors, the whole engine is modified.

Ok might have to grab the list of part numbers from you and buy piece by piece
The gears had made a difference but still missing that ooomph feeling...
Maybe because I'm spoiled by the 4.0 and 4.10 gears
