Jeep runs! Chasing a vacuum leak and why the temp gauge no worky. I don't know if I got a bad sender or what. Gauge works and sweeps left to right. Left when unplugged and right when plugged in.

I had the same issue before Harlan. Couldn't get it to work right. It did nothing at all. If I grounded the wire at the sender it would peg to the right. New sender did nothing.

That one wire runs from the sender staight to the cluster so Idk what the deal was.

I was short on time so I just bought a standalone gauge and installed it. The gauge that O'Reilly's sells for $29 threads right into the hole in the head where the stock sender was.

Of course I do.

Equus #6242

Also, it's $21.99. Not $29.

I think it might be working now. Heating up my pot of water again. That gauge just needs a ground and signal from the OEM sender? I might just splice it into the stock purple wire there and run it to the dash crossmember

The gauge comes with a new sender.

It just needs a ground and a power wire.

They'll both work off the same sender though, right? I'd like to keep both just for ****s and giggles. I bought #6262 because the operating temp was in the middle and had a lesser number sweep.

I need to go to the JY and acquire one manifold bolt. One of mine was broken off in the back bottom of the head and the ones from my 98 don't work.

No. The senders are more than likely different ohm ranges.

The stock sender may say 0-60 ohms and the aftermarket sender may say 50-120ohms. If that were the case the gauges would read differently. You can try it though.

Yeah I thought about that after I pulled into the driveway. I'll try this new sender I got. I took the old one back and they gave me a new one for free without a receipt.

Yup, and that's why Oreilly's rocks.

I had the box I bought it in but I didn't know how that would work. I got the new OEM sender hand tight and then broke it, so the one for the gauge is in there now, just need to wire it all up. A buddy came over and took me to the JY so I got a grill and some manifold bolts for $20. Hopefully drive it around a little tonight and get the exhaust done tomorrow before work.

That one should be a stud, not a bolt, it is the one that just holds the exhaust manifold isn't it?
