Mud makes for good gear oil. Mines probably about 90% mud and water.

Replacing the seal sounds like it'd be a good idea.

I pulled the cover off of my 30 once and found that it was PACKED with red clay. Completely. Dried red clay. I was wondering why it didn't want to spin.

I had to chip it all out with a screw driver to get to the carrier bolts... Should have taken a picture.

Since that day I avoid deep mud like the plague.

You definitely should have taken a picture of that.

I had given it HELL on the rev limiter in a mud hole for half an hour before I gave up and backed out. The locker started acting up after that day so I parked the Jeep for almost a year until my girlfriend (Now wife) wanted to know why I never did anything with it. She encouraged me to go fix it so we could go wheelin. Now, here I am 5 years later and hardly anything is the same on the Jeep. No more mud boggin.

People around here constantly try to convince me to hit mud holes. I have no doubt I could probably win the local mud bog in the 35" class but I refuse to drop it off in that much mud again.

Hell, half the guys around here just slap some tires on a truck and hit the mud. They don't have a clue what lockers are...

you can order it smooth or ruff - but smooth still has a little bit of a wavey texture to it - they say you can thin it out with a chemical and spray it on in several thin coats and build it up and it will be smooth as paint but i just roll it on real carefully and it does fine.

Woah! Woah! Woah!!! Back the bash bus up. Fords are great. I'm not going to say their the best. Every company has it's perks. But my 99 f150 waxed anything of its gen, and class. It pulled anything I loaded down on it, not slowing up a bit.

^ that got long winded lol.

Can you take a rather up close pic? Or a few of it in general?

You got lucky. I've had a 87, 93, 97 and 99 F-150. Every one of them sucked.
