public land is marked on maps. get one. anyone who thinks trespassing on private land isn't a big deal has probably never owned any themselves. just because it looks barren and unused doesn't mean that is the case. ruts made while "mudding" are damage that has to be corrected on farms, construction sites, etc. it is inconsiderate and selfish to say "i'm not hurting anything".

buy a map or better yet find a local 4x4 club. the clubs do an outstanding job of finding legal places to offroad.

^ this ^ if you want to wheel legally in ohio get ahold of me or find empire offroad on facebook and add us. There are not many places but the few we go to are good. We are going out september 10th in south east ohio to wheel at heiney farms. It was featured in petersons when they went there for the UA

couldnt have said it better npk. i ride atvs alot and always ride legal on a friends land or public. and if its private i get permission first, cuz i sure as hell wouldnt want some guy on my property ruttin it up and stuff. some people just dont realize that just bc it isnt posted "private property no tresspassers" that you still cant go on the property. fence, signs, gates, or none at all doesnt make a bit of difference. if its not yours, someones you know, public, or no permission... keep off! lol

just so you know, if your on a ranch with cows in nevada, the owner of the ranch can shoot you if he suspects your steeling cattle. I dont know about other states but that alone would make me stay off private land just out of fear of being blasted. I know most people that own large plots of land usually own guns and weather they are justified in shooting you or not, its not good for your health to have bullets fly into you. stay off private land and if you cant find legal places to go then your not looking hard enough.

i dont know how many of you guys are fimiliar with villa park but theres a spot off north ave. you turn left onto (main street lombard) " north side of north ave" you go down to i beleve its the second street on the right the only one that is seal coated cant miss it. you go all the way down go over the hill " if you cant make it go arround by the big raidio antenna and go arround the wall ( back entrance) place is huge i used to go there all the time with my f150 never brought the jeep there yet but if your ever in the area check it out very little cop troubble theres no way for them to make it in and if they do on foot just leave out the back. its not private property they just dont want people geting hurt cause i guess someone got injured when they flipped there car a few years back.

I understand it's the same way in Texas. Any ranch owner that suspects someone of cattle rustling or horse thievery on their property can legally shoot them.

i wheeled in AZ and TX on public no problems. plenty of open space out there. here in NY i wheel on private land with permission of the owner. any farmer will let you wheel the edge of his fields if you ask nicely, and promise not to cross fields. some even let you take small game, so wheeling and free hunting... I Love NY.

Reminds me of wheeling in one place in PA. One incident 3 state cops come rolling in and one gets stuck. He tells me that he will let us off if we pull him out. Another a buddy got stuck and radioed for help. I didn't have a 4x4 that night so my girlfriend and I went and played "security" in case the cops showed up. 5 trucks showed up to get him out. After 3 hours they got him out but an hour of it was just sitting and waiting on the troopers to leave. The trooper was 15 feet from us but couldn't see us and didn't want to walk back there as there was a deep mud filled hole between us. He kept yelling to us to come out but we stayed put. We were busy anyway Finally he got a call and left. Turned out my buddy sank his truck in the creek. Water to top of the seat. Didn't stop him and his girlfriend from making a kid that night though....just glad my girlfriend didn't get pregnant that night! Ahhh, the good old days! Even crashed a gate one night trying to avoid capture.....
