Okay so my front axle is making sort of a grinding sound some says its my 4wheel drive switch. Cause im all wheel drive atm on my gc all I can say is the front end was grinding smoking any opinions. Also is there a way to make my allwheel drive gc just rear wheel drive
You don't have a 4wd switch.. so I am not sure what anyone would be talking about.
Take your Jeep to a dry parking lot. Turn several figure 8 turns in the parking and see if you feel any binding or hear chirping. If you do, the viscous coupler in your transfer case is going bad.
The viscous coupler is available, but it is extremely expensive compared to replacing the entire transfer case.
But.... it usually does not present as a grinding noise. Grinding noises are often brake related, have you checked your brakes?
Can you make your AWD Jeep a RWD one.... short answer.... not easily...
Long answer...
Yes, you can remove your front driveshaft. BUT... the early ZJ's(93-95) had their front drive shaft locked in the T-case and the rear was not. So if you remove the front drive shaft, your jeep will roll around when the transmission is in park. Much like when you remove the rear driveshaft from a RWD vehicle.
