Most people on this forum disagree, but the first modification should be a winch with appropriate recovery gear to go with it. Why? Because of this situation here. He might have gotten a little farther with a locker or two, but he still would have sunk out of sight. It is much better to winch yourself out and avoid walking. I was out by myself last Sunday and ended up using mine twice for unexpected obstacles with no other place to go.

im beginning to think alot of people on here need some offroad 101

amen.
just plain stupid.
plus, if you dont have recovery points, how the hell is ANYONE going to recover your vehicle if its burried? hell you can barely even tow a vehicle on level surface without a solid bumper and something to hook it to!
and Im in TX, infact, SAN ANTONIO! Most people would not appreciate you wheeling on their land, and would most likely say no. Unless they themselves or their kids do it and they say okay. Thats why there are dedicated offroad 'parks' like Clines and Hidden Falls, or Texas Mud and Fun.
Driving is not a right, its a privildege. If you're not smart or safe, you should probably take up chrocheting and sit on the front porch drinking tea.
