Okay so dug into the jeep last night with a mechanic. (pic attached of moving it)
Decided its not worth it to put anymore money into the engine it has in it right now and the transmission is'nt much better. So here is what im looking into right now, a 4BT swap and going with a manual transmission.
The big thing is i bartered with the mechanic and hes going to do the swap for free. (i pay for parts, engine, transmission....) And im going to help him do the swap and the mounts. (ive got to build a custom flatbed for his truck in return)
Ive looked around some seeing what kind of info i could find on this, find a bunch of post either for or against it.
Do you guys have any input? Am i crazy to consider it?

No its not a daily driver anymore, it gets towed everywhere now.
I havent had time to do much research. The mechanic threw a figure of around $2,800 for a engine and transmission.

just to give you a idea on the prices the cheapest block I could find was $1000. That's why I'm waiting and doing it down the road. You could probably get a engine for $2800 and that's pretty good.
Started working on the jeep today. Found the problem with the engine. (first picture)
Got everything else pulled out, still trying to get together the replacement engine and transmission and working on the details. But good start for day 1.
