Been looking for the last few days for transmissions and transfer cases and havent found anyone that would get back to me about them so just went a head and did the rebuild

There's a lot more you learn in a class than just the subject you're studying. Learning to do things at a high level even though you might not want to is also invaluable. Learning to work as a team on group projects and other skills along those lines is more what school classes will teach you as opposed to the raw subject material of what you're learning. Obviously hands on learning about things you enjoy will make you feel as if you learned that material better, and you probably would, however it's the stuff you don't realize you learned that a classroom setting excels in.
That's just my experience anyway as someone who has gone though college and has also learned a tremendous amount from online resources such as this site. Something to keep in mind when you make decisions about what you want to do going forward in your lives...
