Kansas City bs Thread
98' xj, chrysler 8.25, np231, ax15. When I give it gas after coasting or right when I release the clutch after shifting gears I get a solid clunk/thump sound (you can feel it to) from what sounds like the rear of the jeep. If I release the clutch slow and im not giving it gas it will shift without the thump, but normally once I release the clutch after shifting the transfer of energy causes this noise. Also just realized when going over a speed bump or the bump in a driveway you can hear the rear of the jeep making the thump noise real slow, almost like a rubbing. I changed the rear drive shaft u joints, new rear diff fluid, new t-case fluid, new trans fluid. The leafs sag a little bit but the bushings arent to bad. The only thing that appears to need replaced are the rear leaf shackles, they are fairly rusty and cracked. Any ideas?

Could definatly be the rear end, never tore one apart so Im hoping its not but maybe its time to learn. I just replaced the rear shocks, they are bolted up tight. I crawled under earlier and gave them a shaking, nothing moved. I appreciate your offer to help take a look, may have to take you up on that if I cant get it figured out. Could it just be something loose or more than likely something needs to be replaced (for the rear diff)?

Our main spot deepest water we have been thru is about the top of my 33s. There are spots that are not possible to drive across due to the depth, and if your not careful you will slide right into the deep holes. We've had it happen to two rigs. Got em both out with no damage though. We have a little bit of everything. Creek, rocks, big hills, and mud. And even a swamp road, but it's dry at the moment
