Double check the count on them teeth. I think 3.25 is the lowest the put in a 9".

Or maybe that's right and you just got an oddball?

2.75 is possible since that rear came out of a car. i've heard of a few racers running 2.47 gears. but if the numbers on the ring gear are 42-10 then that would be a 4.20 gear. maybe you counted teeth wrong? do you know what it came out of?

here's some good info for ya

I cut it out of a lincoln not 100% it was stock to the car it was a durby car. The stamp does say 42-10 but count 44-16?

well lincoln makes sense since there were coils mounted factory on it, i believe it was the lincoln's and galaxies that ran the coils. well it's possible you got a high geared 9 then.

One of my old teachers have 2.47s in his land speed car. But I can't imagine under 3 in anything from a factory

Yea I counted them again a couple times 44-16 and it's 61.5 inch long to the mounting bolts for the axle. With the shafts it's 65 to lugnut to lugnut

the versailles (sp?) came with 2.47:1, 2.50:1, 2.75:1 & 3.00:1 options if i remember right, a buddy was restoring one back in high school and i just remember we were shocked by the gear ratio in it.

well it's from a lincoln so i'm not surprised if that's your ratio now.

double check the diameter and make sure it's not the 9 3/8 instead of the 9" that came in some 60's lincolns.
