They were kids around my age(18) looked high as a kite, and were out there looking for a "travis" second we told them FD was on the way they turned around and left. Being 18 I haven't bought a pistol yet, but I am ready to protect my self, 8 years of boxing, knife on my side, bigger knife and bat in the Jeep. Just when lead starts flying they only do so much.

Agreed. I am into dynamic shooting sports and just cannot be without the best means for self defense or the defense of others. If you are ever up here let me know and we will practice a little. I'm sure you have been taught the rules of gun safety, but I'll give you some more pointers. I get to be Safety Officer for the NM IDPA State Championships this year. (Friggin Geeked!) It's in Rio Rancho Sept 26th-27th if you feel like checking it out. You can even shoot it if someone had a pistol for ya. Just have a family member buy one. Perfectly legal for you to shoot, just not own.

I'm definitely gonna have to take you up on that sometime. What part of NM do you live in? Haven't gone shooting since before last hunting season(sighted in the guns, didnt go hunting lol) And ya, I wanna have my brother buy me one, Just not to sure on what to get, dont need nothing to big, was thinking a 9mm, or 38, possibly a 40.

I live up in Farmington. The caliber only matters in what you want the pistol for. If you just want to start out gaming for your training, a 9mm is just fine, in fact it has better attributes for a gaming pistol. When you can legally own one and keep it for self defense, you may change it. I use a .40, as the stopping power is equal to .45 with out over penitration problems. As long as you get a good name brand you cannot go wrong with quality. lol No High Points!
My top pics are S&W M&P, XDM, Glock, and a number of 1911's. Just make sure that you at least hold each one. Find something comfortable. And don't listen to anyone tell you exactly what to get! We are all different.
I have a Glock 23, Colt 1911, and a Springfield XDM 5.25. Any time you are up here you can try them out. 1911 is .45, but the others are .40.
My wife has a Glock 19 (9mm) you could try as well.
Sorry everyone for thread hijacking!!
Long live New Mexico!

I saw you mention this place so I headed up there with my wife Tuesday. Really cool spot! Being monsoon season, it was crazy rainy and really muddy. That road getting out was hairy. Unfortunately, I couldn't take my xj because I haven't finished my front axle yet but the wife's FJ did awesome. Beautiful spot.

Were you able to find some ohv trails around there? You mind sharing where? Have you been to canlijon lakes (just south of Trout lakes)?
