Definitely 44. Unless budget is an issue. Then, 8.25. I have been running the 8.25 for about 4 years now and wheel it hard. No problems yet. And they are easy to find.

x2 have a detroit in mine and no issues. Another thing is if you get the 8.25 that's 97+ the shafts are 29 spline.

If you are going to spend money on an axle do not get an 8.25.... Your best bet for the money would be to go with an 8.8

I have one myself an it is a good axle.

You can get an 8.8 with a limited slipdif and 4.10's from a JY for very cheap. All you have to do is have the perches and shock mounts welded on and bolt it in. same 5 o 4.5 pattern as stock and it works great. The shafts are bigger than a Dana 44 but there is a lot of debate as to the strength of each. Oh the 8.8 has disks as well...

That's why I said it all depends on budget. If that's the case... why the 8.8?... the 9" is far better. But this is where personal opinion comes in. Best bet is to do the research and figure out what exactly your budget is and get the best deal for that budget. Keep in mind the cost of upgrades and availability of replacement parts.
