Arc is easy. Its harder to make welds that look good but making them strong is easy. I'm guessing you guys say its hard because getting an arc started can be difficult, and rod sticking sucks? I agree on rod sticking, but with a good machine, starting an arc is easy as fawk. My 40 year old industrial grade Hobart has 70V open circuit voltage, it'll start an arc through bedliner

I mean if I'm using good rods that are dry yeah starting arcs is easy. For me the hardest part is dealing with the long rod itself and my hand shaking. But that's the only kind of welder I have, 40 year old Lincoln 220 lol. And yes rod sticking sucks.

Yeah I agree about the long rod and having to move hand constantly compensate for the rod getting shorter too, ill stick with my Hobart 190 just need a gas tank ha

Yeah I wish I had a MIG... Hopefully get one around Christmas time. Hobart 170. The long rod is mostly a pain for welding in hard to reach places. Sometimes I just cut like 2" off the rod

You guys are lame, stick welding is easy. And MIG and TIG are also arc welding.

Kids these days.

We both know they're arc welding. Stick welding is just harder to have nice, pretty, clean welds compared to MIG or TIG.

I'd rather have a good 220V MIG, but I got an old industrial grade hobart stick welder for free (goes up to 315 amps!) and about 80lb of consumables. That's why I learned to stick weld lol
