Inspect axle housing
FYI...
When you go look at an axle housing, make sure take the diff cover off andcheck the bearing races for any evidence of spinning in the bearing mount.
I bought a Dana 44, stripped it down, painted it etc. Took it to the shop torebuild it and found out the bearings had been spun. I had too much money intoit (disc brakes, bearings, gears, True-Trac etc.) to go back. We ended up gluingthe bearing races to the bearing cap to make sure they don't spin.
Cheers,
Jason
