I live in henderson. Hey, anyone had any overheating problems with their XJ's? I read somewhere that they don't do desert very well. I have an 87 but I have never driven it. I am ready to start working on it and I wanted to know if I need to upgrade the radiator or not.

i have had my 95' for a while and have not had any problems. but what i did do is wire a switch to the electric fan relay. you can keep the fan on when on the trail. it will keep the temp down very well.

im out in henderson. close to vegas.
Check out this website.. Meetup.com
Go on and look for Vegas off road, or Jeepthrills. JOIN UP... simple
Their both vegas valley based clubs. Ive run with them a few time and have never been disapointed, thats where i learn good trials from. all nice guys and super helpful too . anything from stockers to "i dont know what to call it anymore" rigs. They tell you what to expect if your worried about being out of a leauge, either way they, as well as myself do it just for the fun and love of wheeling with good people.

PM me if your doin any runs out by vegas. always love to go out.

Ive personaly never had an issue.
but i have know others that did, as you know its hot as F*&k out here. when im wheelin its normally like 112*.
You still have the old system with that weird perssurized bottle, and no cap on the radiator? (those bottle explode sometimes)
you can swap it for the newer 96-97+ stuff pretty easy theres a few 97's and 00's at pic-a part on boulder. cooling ststems intact. grab it all.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'm probably going to join the Nevada Backroaders club. They are more into scenic driving which is what I like. I am not into damage and danger.

Cool im from reno!

hey all were from reno...my hubby got his jeep in july of 09, fixed the issues we could but now have an issue that came up back then and is spitting at us now, lol...valve cover gasket and oil pressure sender/switch...would love to find someone who can help us, we are very tight on money...are there any mechanics out there that can help us if we buy the parts needed? or are some of these items best left to a real mechanic like our reg. guys that weve taken our cars to?

Oil pressure switch is a 5 minute fix. Value cover gasket isn't hard just a bit of a pain bending over the front. I can't help this week but can take a look after. Where in Reno are you located.

hi sorry didnt get this message on time, sorry...it has been taken care of, thankfully because hubby said it lost alot of oil one day while he was at work and was smoking alot more than normal...so that day we went to his buddy's apt. w/ the supplies and got it done...hasnt leaked that we have noticed...so thats a good sign...although we had to get the cork style gasket due to low funds, well keep an eye on the oil leaks more often since our friend said they tend to break or weaken soon...thank you for all and any help this forum gave us...we really appreciate it! if we need assistance again i know where to come back
