Does anyone know if a Cherokee electric fan is variable speed? The reason I ask is because today my XJ was running hotter than normal, for Las Vegas. When I popped the hood my the electric fan was rotating but slower than normal or what seems normal to me.

 

Time to replace it. Motor is going bad. Mine did the same thing a couple years ago. And no it's only one speed.

The Taurus elec fan, that you can fab to replace your mechanical fan is variable speed. I believe it has 2 speeds a high and a low.

 

I have one, I wouldn't recommend it. It does keep the jeep cool, but it hangs about 6" under the radiator. I'd really like to make a custom shroud, but I would rather go with a made to fit offering from dirt bound off-road.

 

Same here. I've had my eye on that kit for a while. Might just have my buddy make me a shroud for 3 fans since he works at a sheet metal shop.

Thanks, I replaced it with a OEM fan because I am saving up for the Novak three fan conversion kit. FYI for anyone that has OBD II Jeep and a smart phone I high recommend the Torque app and bluetooth adapter. It has tons of realtime that displays right on your phone screen. My favorite part is it gets the engine from the ECU, much better than guessing how accurate your gauge really is.

 

I was thinking about getting the torque app, where did you get the Bluetooth adapter at?

3 fan conversion kit?? Never heard of it, got any links to price and info?

Why would you go with the dirtbound kit over the Novak??

 

I like the mounting better. They use SPAL fans. I also like that they use actual temp sensors rather than the radiator probe.

 

I paid $12.18 on Amazon and the full app is $4.95. The Torque does want that the buletooth adapter sold on Amazon and Ebay are knock-offs. I had mine for two months now with no issues.
