After lusting over the XJ for years, my wife and I recently bought our first one this week. Since moving to Nevada, we (I) have attempted to take our Volvo on some roads it shouldn't have been on.. and did a bit of damage to it (cracked oil pain, torn off side skirt), seemed like it was time to get a 4x4.
Scouted out this thread last night for a few hours, super impressed with what you all have done. Looking forward to tapping your experience and know-how for future upgrades.

Thanks for the welcome!
I doubt it deserves being called a "rig" just yet. Came with a doughnut and weak tires, So we're hesitant to even take it off pavement until we can get a full spare.
I had problems uploading photos to the forum, got a permissions error. Anyway, I uploaded them to my Flickr account here:

She has a little rust on the edges, but under the hood, and the interior are immaculate, Only 125,000 miles (you may have seen it on CL). Talked the guy down a little due to the rust, but was a nice guy who clearly loved the car but got into modding out an F-250 and his wife needed a new car for their growing family. He and his wife named her roxie, I think the name will stay.
My wife and I are rock climbers, so we might take it back into black velvet canyon or up rocky gap/ Lowell canyon if you all think a mostly stock XJ with a 3'' lift could do it. Otherwise we'll have to wait until we can get new tires & rims, a full size spare, and other parts can be added. Her uncles are into off-roading and own a CJ, YJ and an XJ, so i think I got the bug from them.
What are your suggestions? First thing I should do?

First thing? A tune up. Make sure the radiator doesn't have any issues! Don't want to find that out in the middle of summer. Then just mod it to where you feel comfortable.

Right on, that and an A/C recharge are at the top of my list. The nevada summers are brutal, which is why this jeep is amazing, we can start heading up to Clark Mtn and Charleston for jeeping, camping and climbing in cooler temps.
After the tune up I was thinking of some small things like floormats. Getting the full size spare, a jack with a higher lift than the stock one. I've already been hunting the forum for specifics on these items. After that...I'm not sure. But that seems like a topic for another thread. Thanks again all for the welcomes!
