Check Oil light
I have a '98 Cherokee with a 2.5L engine. I just put new heads and new head gasket. I have a problem now with the oil light. After engine heats up, and I drive it for a while, as I slow down, the oil light comes on and when I accelerate back up, it goes off again until I slow down again (such as stopping at a stop light). Anyone have any ideas what is going on? It doesn't come on at normal driving speeds, only when I slow way down or stop. It is a 5 speed transmission. The light was coming on before I changed the heads as well. Is it the oil pump or maybe just a faulty gauge?

The oil pump could be warn out and if the engine is running hot then the oil viscosity will get thin causing low oil pressure after warm up. Get a oil pressure test gauge from harbor freight and check it cold and hot. If it's not making any funny noises I would install a high volume oil pump in it if the pressure tested low and run 10-40 oil.
