Bushwacker fender flares
So I've got a 1999 XJ 4door with a 4.5" lift and 32" BFG MT's. As I stand now, I'm missing one of the OEM fender flares. Got pulled over and the CHP nitpicked me for not having the tires covered. I've always liked the look of the Bushwackers. They're a bit aggressive looking and they'll cover the tires all the way. I want to be able to clear 33" tires next go around. So I was going to trim fenders and was thinking of adding the Bushwackers.
Does anyone know if I were to trim the metal fenders that the bushwackers would fit? I really dislike the look of no fender flares. It looks a little hillbilly to me. I do more trail riding then rock or bouldaring. So max flex isn't my biggest concern.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i'm going to add, if your tires don't stick out too far, don't get the bushwackers, they will look goofy.
i'm assuming since you have 32's, they're probably only 10.5 wide, so unless they are on rims with at least 3.75 to 3.50 backspacing, they will be tucked under the flares by at least an inch or more. it'll look dumb.

I did leave out the rim info. I have 3.75 back spacing. I'm pretty sure they'll line up nicely. I do have to agree tho. It would look dumb with flares coming out so many more inches out over the tire.
Aside from that. I do at least want to get to a 33" tire. If I can get the money together for stronger axles, I'd like to get some 35's under there.
Not so sure how well that'll work out with a 4.5" lift.
I've read things on dudes that have done it with only 3.5" lifts. But that massive cutting and no flares. Bay Area cops and CHP don't sympathize so much. Would like to stick to functional and legit as much as possible.

On my 89 i had the RE superride kit, I trimmed up the front fender's and cut n rolled the rear's then went to the junk yard and got some flare's of a newer wrangler. i did the rear just like bushwack dose "opens with the door" they worked AWSOME and i got alot of complements on how they looked. Here's a few pic's this was with 31inch muds, i soon moved to 33 and had NO problem flexing out. The first pics shows it mounted but i cant seem to find the one rite after i trimmed and made it look nice.

Im running 33s with the Bushwackers now. The instructions show you where to cut the fenders, but you can actually cut quite a bit more without any problems. You can also trim the inside lip of the Bushwackers to give you more room. They're a bit expensive, but they keep the cops away and I like how they look. I do agree that they look weird if they hang way over the tires though. Mine are just about flush. Hope this helps
