Default Any Recommendations on where to buy?

Hello there I have been trying to find a mid 90's to '01 Cherokee for months now and cannot seem to find one for a reasonable price as well as reasonable mileage. I've looked at multiple websites like Cargurus or Cars.com as well as Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. And now I am asking for help from Jeep Forums like these. So if you guys have any recommendations on where to buy in the SoCal area or if you know anybody who is selling it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

avoid car gurus cars dot com and car v Ana or any of that other stuff IMHO . Clean XJ’s are getting harder to find and to find them you may have to be willing to travel . I have driven over 1200 miles one way before to get a car . Look in dry climate areas for XJ’s and be willing to fly out and drive one back or drive both ways . Deals are out there to be had but they won’t be at a dealer .

Yeah there's no magic store unfortunately you're looking at private sales although everything seems so expensive these days. Makes me feel good knowing my jeep's worth more than when I bought it lol. Don't rush it and also don't be afraid of "high" mileage. Not sure what your definition is but realistically at this point the vehicles have either been driven for the past 20-30 years or they have been sitting for the past 20-30 years. Both come with their own set of problems. I personally would lean towards higher mileage and mechanical soundness than just buying something for the numbers. You see that game played a lot here and I fell for it when I bought and wish I hadn't. Someone once told me here about xj's "What you see is what you get" and that's the advice I'll give you on your purchase. GL

If you can work on them your self , have you thought about maybe getting a 2 wheel drive and then making it a 4x4 ? I see 2 wd for cheap and in good shape and lower miles .

You have to travel, Yes. Too many millionaires and good trails in SD.
That being said; I look every day on Craigslist. I have gotten a sub 100k 2wd for under 3k$. a 4wd with 130k for 4k$ and a 4wd Grand Cherokee for 3k. All in SD county. Don't give up.

Edit: Sorry for bringing this back to life. I didn't realize how dead this fourms was. kind of sucks.
