So I pulled out the fuel pump in my '92 the other day to throw in the Napa fuel pump I picked up a few weeks ago, and found the fitment was rediculuosly horrible. I think they went a little too universal. The rubber isolaters that hold the pump in the whole assembly fit horrible and you can't reuse the originals, the bottom or pickup port was enlarged to the size of the pickup but is all plastic with no rubber to seal/hold the pickup and a loose fit so the pickup would fall right off. So I took it back, and they had nothing different. Went to the dealership, its discontinued from there, they can't get it. Went to Action Auto Parts, they had the same crap. They ordered me one that looked different, went and looked at it yesterday, it was even worse. So I told them I saw Airtex makes the whole assembly already assembled. So They found it and ordered it, gonna check it out tomarrow. Anyone else have this problem? I just don't want my fuel pump to fall off inside the tank, haha!

Devin, it sounds like the fuel pick-up end (with the net looking thing on the end of it) may have come off, so it's not sucking from the bottom of the tank like it should.

Just buy one of the "In Line" Fuel pumps you can get at Vato Zone. When your fuel pump dies, it dies in the open position, so you can just cut your fuel line and add a electric fuel pump, just cut and splice the old wires. They are like 30 bucks. The pump that is, just make sure you get the one for fuel injected vehicles or you wont have enough fuel pressure to stay running. Thats what I did to my porsche when the pump went out, **** 300 bucks for a new pump. LOL!

So all this talk about bad fuel pumps made me head out to the local auto zone and pick up an inline pump. I paid around $45 for the pump, which came with some fittings, clamps, and mount. So my question is, is it possible to easliy splice in this new pump if the existing one does take a dump? Also Superglue, do you have any pics you could send me of how you spliced yours in?

So I put the new Airtex fuel pump assembly and Napa filter in this morning, everything installed good except for a couple bad factory hose clamps. Seems to run better then before. I don't have a hick-up when I blip the throttle anymore. I'll have to hook up the fuel pressure guage at another time to see how my adjustable regulator is doin now. It used to have a quick 5 psi drop then would jump back up in pressure when I snapped the throttle, just curious if that went away.
