Found out my head is cracked. Now time to find a new one. Read that a 2003+ grand cherokee head is a direct bolt on and doesn't have the defective area

The good 0331 heads that were remade after 2001 are the TUPY which are supposed to be less likely to crack. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/t...1-head-977498/

Yeah that's what I've read as well and also read that Clearwater makes a good replacement. Called them and left a message

Very slowly worked on motor removal and a/c to compressor swap and cleaned up a ton of wiring. Ran separate grounds for each accesory i.e. headlights, markers, ect...new headlight housings installed and 9003 sylvania crystal clear bulbs.

Nice steering setup. How does it behave over bumps?

I tested my MAP sensor and its withing specs then,
After driving around for 2 hours, entering several o2 inputs to the PCM and recording the results on my data logger I realized that the PCM ignores all O2 sensors input after 2500rpm. The PCM probably reverts to other sensors.

So I Just programmed my sensor to run the engine at 15:1 (I want to tune it to 15.4 like the graph but I have to find a long flat stretch. To many hills and red lights here and it screws up my data) and when it passes 2500rpm it still goes closer to 14.7 ish anyway. At WOT it goes to about 13

Hopefully gas mileage goes up from running rich all the time.

Looked for a new head for it today. Found a Clearwater 0331 head with bolts and gasket set for $590. It's either that or get a JY 0331 head from a 2003+ grand cherokee. Any thoughts?

Whats wrong with the 96-99 xj heads...Are they not direct bolt on as well?

All the heads will work from 91-01 afaik. 95 and older just have the coolant temp sensor in the head you dont need but will work just the same.

From what I read the earlier heads need some custom work for the coil pack...I'm not sure though. My mechanic experience goes as gas as what I have done since I bought this jeep last year haha

Hmm that may be true, didnt think about that.

I researched it a bit, looks like a pita to swap in older heads, https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/200...t-fits-124299/

I would go with the clearwater head, that way u know everything is new. Buy a jy head for 150+- and have the valves done, checked for cracks, machined, etc etc and thats probly 300+-. So the price difference isnt horribly different. Also, i read that the newer head have a couple problems with fitment to the older block.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with the Clearwater one.
