I am looking to get a skid for my xj and am wondering what people are using and which one offers the most protection and allows you to keep maximum ground clearance. If you have one installed throw up a pic.
Thanks

David, I have a belly skid that I bought from JCR Off Road. I love it. It is made from 1/4" plate. It has 13 mounting points. It covers the entire TC, front to back. It fits up snug against your crossmember. So, basically you're only losing a 1/4" of clearance beyond the crossmember clearance. The thing weighs I'd say 80-90 pounds. I know its solid because I dropped it while installing it on my Jeep and it broke my thumb....
So, trust me when I say solid and bombproof!! I have pivoted my Jeep around on a rock while the entire weight of my Jeep was resting on the skid plate. Actually now that I don't sweat my belly guts getting ripped out of my Jeep anymore, I found out that I need to upgrade my rear axle diff cover. I have bent it twice now resulting in diff oil leakage. They go for $150 plus shipping and they are worth every dime!!

Bucks skid is pretty freaking awesome. Beefy as all hell. It looks nice, and I'd say leaves plenty of room for long arms. Bucks also got JcR stage 2 sliders which fit perfectly with the skid as well. It's a full skid that is the price of most half skids

I'm pretty happy with the transfer case skid that came with my Rough Country long arm upgrade kit. I hear the original skids with their kits hung down pretty far, but mine's only about an inch lower than the bottom of my t-case. Of course I do have the 242 which I think hangs lower than the 231 and the only reason I went RC is because I was able to get the whole kit for $600 including tax and shipping.

All of the Rough Country stuff on my Jeep is pretty rugged and you can't beat the deals Jason gets for us guys on the forum. I'm pretty much set on getting a set of there control arm drop brackets and shackle drop brackets to help me clear the 36s I hope to be putting on my Jeep soon.
