Default Steering column?

So me and my buddy went off to the molalla mountains to go rough it up... 4x4ing that is not any broke back mountain s*#@ but afterwards i noticed my alignment was off and steering wheel was making a popping, cracking noise when i turn left, also my reaction when turning left is delayed i have to have the steering wheel turned about 15 degrees before it will start turning. I've looked it up on the internet, the only thing i found was saying something about the u-joints or cv joint. I don't think its either. i think it might be the steering column because it sounds internal. any advice or statements?

you could have also stretched out the ball socket for you ball joints on your tierods which would cause a dead zone and free play on your steering. jack up your axle and try to shake your tires back and forth when the steering wheel is locked with the car off, you should find your culprit there.
