Road trip up the coast
Hey folks. I'm a California resident, but have lived in both OR and WA. My g/f and I are thinking of a road trip and I proposed that we go up the coast. Last year in October. We did about 3K miles through OR and WA. Had a blast! Lookin to come back up. We're in San Francisco. So the coast is easy to get to.
We're expecting our first kid and want to get away for a few days before all hell breaks loose.
Anyone with tips, locations, places, things to see up the route? I don't like being a tourist. I want to see what you all see. The cool small stuff that makes your state so freakin awesome! Good food, antique shops, that kinda stuff.
My jeep is somewhat built. Lift, 33's, locker, and I just ordered a gang load of more parts to add to my XJ. Frame stiffeners, more suspension stuff to net 5.5" (I'm at 4.5"). All new cooling.
I wouldn't mind seeing some wheeling spots. Just no mud holes. I'm not into that kinda wheelin.
We're down for camping either in jeep or outside. I may live in a city, but I'm far from being a city slicker (read as, I'm not from CA.).
You can also hit me up on Facebook.

Thanks ahead of time for any input and info. It's greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Heck, if you're willing to come to Puyallup you need to go the extra 20 miles and 4wheel Evans Creek OHVA The place absolutely ROCKS! Just to the south of there is another place. Elbe Hills OHVA. this place is awesome. It's the home of the infamous Busy Wild Trail. Just to the north of Evans Creek is Reiter Foothills OHVA. It's been in rehab the last 2 years. Hopefully it will be opened back up soon. A little farther north from there is my local 4wheeling spot. Walker Valley OHVA. Here on the west side of Wa. we also have Tahya State Forest OHVA but it's really kind of a yawner if you like trail crawling like I do. Over on the east side we have Naches OHVA, Liberty OHVA, Funny Rock/Moon Rocks or whatever it's called OHVA.
One of the Oregon boys will have to Roger up to tell you about Oregon. The only places I know of down there is Tillamook State Forest OHVA AKA Brown's Camp and Sandlake Dunes. both of which can be accessed right from the PCH.

Sounds like I'll need to come up to WA. Don't think I'll be able to swing it this time around though. Mainly due to time, work, and pregnant g/f.
Hearing of all these places in WA makes me want to move again. We don't have crap here for wheeling. Minus Rubicon and a few weak OHV parks. There's always Northern Cali. But it's seriously like 4 hours away.
Been lookin online too. But I keep coming across the tourist attractions. Blah!

Hey, I just moved from Tracy CA a few months ago. I lived there for around 20 years, but up here in Washington, I'm still in awe of how beautiful it is. Went to Walker a few weeks ago and loved it. Definitly worth it. If you can make it up to the Oregon/Washington border, then go check out Astoria on the Oregon Coast/Columbia River. Pretty cool town. I took a chartered Sturgeon fishing trip there. Eat at the Rogue Brewery House there and you'll be in heaven, if your into gooooood beer.

If you go check out Astoria go a few miles south and check out Seaside. That is my favorite beach town to go stay at.
ODGREEN, I will take you up on the offer of wheeling Brown's camp, too. I've heard plenty about it but, I've never 4wheeled there...YET!

Hey I am also in for a Rubicon trail run. You will not even believe it. On 2 different occasions I was literally sitting at the trail head at each end of the Rubicon and I didn't get to run it. I was alone both times so it was probably a good thing that I didn't. The first time there was snow when I went in the Placerville side and the snow plow stopped right where the road ended at the trail and there was a 10 foot high wall of snow. The other time when I went in from the Tahoe side I couldn't find the trail head. I later was told by a friend that I had driven right by it.
