Default d30 u joints.

So I got my lift all done. Got the new wheels and tires on. Everything seemed great.

Then I here a clicking noise. With the help 1987xj I found out my front passenger side u joint is toast.

So now I need to replace them.

Any tips brands suggestions guys?

I went cheap at autozone, and my steering is really stiff. They are super tight and i can't get em to loosen up.

Well I have been looking into things. What I think I am going to do is buy some cheapo schucks or autozone u joints. Then I will scour junk yards or classifieds for some new shafts from the newer XJs that have the larger style u joints. Then I will just have replacement shaft with u joints in them.

I just want to get her running quicker.

Leo, as Chris and I were putting his front diff. back together, tonight we discovered his front driver's side U-joint is bad. I will be swapping it out and getting his front axle put back together tomorrow while he is working.

I get the Brute Force, greasable ones from O'Reillys. I would expect you can find them at Kragen's and Schnuck also. They are about $20 a pop. But being able to grease them is a HUGE bonus.

That sucks for chris. There is a guy on naxja who has the larger style front u joint shafts he is trying to sell to me for 150. I am thinking of picking that up and fixing what I got now. Then I will have a spare set.

Leo, $150 is extremely expensive.. that is actually more then aftermarket at a local parts store..

you can find them at junkyards for $15/peice your talking about the ABS shafts or the 95+ non abs shafts.. with the 297x Joint..

I also HIGHLY suggest Spicer joints for the whole jeep.. 297x and 760x for Axle shafts, and 1310's for driveshafts..

Yeah the shafts with the 297 with hub assemblies. 150 total. If that is to much I will tell him. I don't to get ripped off. Thanks for the info.

hub assembly? oh.. haha i thought you meant Inner/outer shaft with U-joint only..

still, i think you could get that whole package for half the price from a junk yard.. but with his price, you dont have to take the time to search for them, waist the gas/expenses or time..

so, i say, at $150 go for it

Leo,

I have an extra D30 at our shop out of a YJ (the one I'm doing the gear swap on). Stop by on monday and see if they are the same. If so, if you take it off it's yours.
