Default Chrysler 8.25 LSD noise

So I just put a Chrysler 8 1/4 29 spline in place of my Dana 35. Turns out I have a Limited Slip in it as well. The rear end came out of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee that had 150K miles on it. I get an odd noise of the rear end. Almost sounds like a bad wheel bearing. I got a buddy with a 1992 Cherokee with same set up but his is factory with the Jeep and it makes the exact same noise. Is this odd noise I'm hearing normal? I know the Limited Slip is working right... I gave it hell last weekend out in the mud.

I have 4:56 gears in my 8 25 and i get a wine between 40-45. I think mine does it because of the tooth that has to be ground down.

Crazy thing is, I have the stock 3.55 gears in it. I have a manual so going from 3.07 to 3.55 was a huge jump for me.

Limited slips are clutch style. What you are hearing is the clutches. Some quality limited slip fluid should help.

X2

Limited slip diffs require a friction modifier mixed with the gear oil

If you ground it in the right spot, it doesnt even contact the pinion so i doubt thats your whine.

NWhunter, get some mopar friction modifier from the dealer or some from a parts store that says mopar compatible. Drain your gear oil, add 4oz of FM and fill the rest with new gear oil. See if that helps.

The whine could be a bad pinion bearing or carrier bearings. Hard to say.

Will Royal Purple help at all? I think the rear end is in sound shape... A friend has the same noise in his stock cherokee. No cluncks, and the limited slip works like a champ!

I have the stock 3.07 in mine with 31", I am looking for 8.25 and 30 with 3.55 as a cheaper option. Can you use 5th gear more now?

My 1999 was 250,000 mile and my rear end make a growling noise at all speeds. My plan is to find a low mileage 8.25 to swap in while I rebuild/upgrade mine.

I could run 5th gear with 32's, but yet 3.55 gears did make a difference. I was able to get my fuel economy back.
