Default Buying a new xj

So im without a jeep right now (sold my old one) and ive been looking at couple the last couple weeks but so far no luck. They have either been leaking eveywhere or just not kept up.
Im trying to spend under 2k which i think should be enough for a decent stock xj (right?)
What im getting at is i was wondering how much most people spent for their rigs? How long it took them to find theres how many rigs they looked at and if there is any other advice (pretty familiar w/ xj's and what to check but extra advice would be nice).

Other than your normal car stuff checks( oil, other fluids, brakes, etc. ) check for lower rocker panel rust under doors and such.

Look for cracked Exhaust header, most will have the crack but a bonus if it doesn't.

Also I would avoid getting an XJ with a Dana 35. If it has ABS it has a D35, if it doesnt have ABS it may have a D35.

I spent a year looking for a 97 - 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4 DOOR, with a AX-15 5 Speed manual. I finally found 1 for 950$ that had tranny issues but the nicest body I've ever seen.

I would trade a Rough body for a good tranny any day, especially with trails I'll be taking her down. Just check out the Elbe carnage thread !!!!

SO I HAVE SEEN QUITE A LOT OF XJ'S WITH THE V6, I ASSUME IT NOT NEARLY AS RELIABLE AS THE STRAIGHT SIX BUT BUT is there a big difference. Would anyone recommend staying away from em?

I believe you're referring to the gutless 2.8l V6 which was installed in 1984 to 1986. Yes, there are a lot of them and there pretty cheap, but cost a lot to upgrade. Stay away from the 2.8l v6 motor, it's not worth the trouble.
