So I've been working down in Fallon, Nevada. My company was good enough pay for me to have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee as my rental car. Today was my first day off since coming down here so, of course, I went and found the Rubicon Trail. It's up by Lake Tahoe just a little over an hours drive from where I am working. I took a few pictures while I was on the Rubicon Trail. I figured I would share them with you all.

I was all by my lonesome in a bone stock 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I went in 7 miles and and the snow was deep enough that I chickened out going any farther. I figured I was pushing my luck as it was. There is a skid plate somewhere under that Grand that definitely was doing it's job. I wish so bad I could have been in my XJ. I would have kept on going. I'm sure that trail must get a lot tougher past where I turned back. As famous as that trail is it has got to get harder than what I saw today.

Yeah, he likes to think he is the snow wheeling king. I know for a fact 35s make snow wheeling easy because just going from 33s to 35s on my Yota made going in the snow waaaay easier. Of course I think the 10 inch wide rims I had on it helped make a bigger footprint, too.
I've read lots of articles and seen lots of pictures from guys going into the Rubicon on the Placerville side. I think that end of the trail is where all of the fun stuff is like the Slueces and what not are. We will both be going wheeling on the Rubicon someday together. We have that Wheeling Bucket list. If we ever make down to Moab we could just do the Rubicon on the way.

That GC actually handled the snow like a champ. The one I had was pretty much base model as far as power train, too. It had the 3.6 litre V-6 (no V-8
) and it was "All Wheel Drive" not 4WD. it had no low range. It had the traction control system on it though. That puts the power wherever its needed side to side and front to rear. That really helped a lot. I was slipping and sliding a lot at first. Then I aired the trires down from 35 street pressure to 20. It did really well after that. If it started to spin I would just get heavy on the skinny pedal and saw the steering wheel side to side and it'd get traction and go.

I am excited to see how my 35x13.5s do in the snow this year, had 33s last year.
Oxen, you should come hangout on a trip sometime next year when we head over that way, i want to see the wheeling daddy in action.
