Can anyone help me with an AW4 tranny issue? I just made this forums page, sorry in advance for the rookie mistakes.

I just recently bought an 88-89 4.0 Cherokee with the AW4 auto. I took it out a few weeks back and it won’t shift out of first!!! I’ve ran lines, wiring, dropped tranny own, checked filter, changed solenoids, fluid, fuses, basically anything I could think of and I’ve found nothing. I’m at a stump fellas and need some guidance on what to do.

it’s a rebuilt tranny after the old one blew. I didn’t put it in, it was put in about 6 years ago. They put in the tranny drove to the parking spot and then it sat til the day I got it. So again please if I can get some help itd be much obliged!

 

Neutral safety switch might be stuck or bad after sitting? Id chase all wires and make sure linkages move.

Someone may have added a 1 gear lock out?

You might try asking in the general tech section. Pnw looking kinda dead these days. Good luck!
