I just bought a 99XJ and I'm looking shops that specialize in Cherokees.
I'm also new to the area and looking for trails I can go on.
I've always wanted one and finally get the chance to build something the way I want it.
First, I want to change out the engine and everything else under the Jeep. It's got a lot of work to undergo but I've got a lot of time.

Thanks for the welcome.
Well the previous owner did a lot under the hood except replacing the engine and the header.
the basic bolt ons and not too hard to do things
no lift kit or anything either just new tires
I had the headers replaced not too long ago (it was cracked in 3 places).
I'm thinking of getting a Jasper Engine unless there's a better brand.
My Jeep currently has 151k+ miles on it.
I'm pretty sure I need a bunch of other things replaced.
My main concern right now is the knocking that I can hear and feel from the rear wheels which doesn't happen to often.
I want to replace or fix whatever to make it run like new.
- axles, control arms, differentials, etc, the costly stuff.
Hell, I might want to switch out the drivetrain from 2WD to 4x4 (if it's even possible). I'm scared on how long I can keep my Jeep on 4H and how fast I can go with it on that setting.
I'm just excited to get things going with my Jeep!!

I'm confused. Your jeep is 2wd and you want to add a front axle, driveline, and transfer case? Or are you talking about changing your part-time 4x4 to full time?

okay... i obviously have no clue about anything jeep.
all i know is that i've always wanted one... an XJ lol
it's an automatic 2wd with a 4H and 4L lever.
would it be possible to convert to a full time 4x4?
if so... how would i go about doing that?
and since i want to replace the engine too
in what kind of order should i go about doing that?

Why would you want full time 4 wheel drive you like worse gas mileage..... I'm not sure you know what your talking about...not trying to be rude but you don't call it a 2wd when you have 4wd... you don't want full time 4wheel drive
And I hope your not driving around in 4h on dry pavement cause that's not good for anything and if driving on the freeway like that could mess up stuff pretty bad

no definitely not on pavement or freeway... i know that much
still.. i don't know much about jeep's
i would love to learn as much as i can though.
i guess calling it a 2wd was the wrong thing to say...
it was just that when it snowed a few weeks ago i was all over the place.
when i turned it to 4H i had no problem but the steering went kind of funny if i made sudden or wide turns... like it tried to correct my steering by going straight again... is that a normal?
so converting to full time 4x4 is a no go huh? i'll take your word for it.
i guess i'm just used to having a 4x4...
also... how can i tell what kind of axle it has? 30/35 etc?

its going to have the dana 30 front end and probably the Chrysler 8.25 rear end.. but take a pic of it and put it up here we can help...or go to a parts website and look at the different gasket rear ends and see witch one looks like yours... i know theres a website that has a pic of the different ones making it easier but i'm not sure what it is
yea thats normal when trying to corner cause the front end is pulling it and the rear end is pushing it at the same time... to corner better let off the gas a little should help it to corner in 4wd
