I'm looking to be getting new tires soon, within the next month or two. I'm currently on a 30" Goodyear stock tire. I want to go up to a 31 for sure. I have my choices narrowed down, but need some opinions on the choices I have left based on my driving. I'm contemplating between the BFGoodrich All Terrain, General Grabber AT2, and the Goodyear Duratrac.

I do 95% travel on the highway (40 miles per day). The offroading I do consists of little mud, dry silt and sand, and some rocks. Tire noise isn't critical, however, I would still like to hear myself think and from what I hear, no pun intended, these tires are decent when it comes to road noise. As far as weather, I want the tire to perform well in the winter when it comes to snow and rain.

I hear the BFG AT have really good treadlife and haven't seen anything on the other two tires as far as treadlife. I have seen some people have had problems with the sidewall getting cut on the Goodyear duratracs, which drives me away from them, however, I love the price and look of the tread design. I have also heard some say the cupping and uneven wear can occur rather quickly on that tire.

What are you guys running and what would you recommend for my driving style/conditions? I would appreciate ANY feedback!

 

If highway miles are a consideration, then a stiffer rubber is more choice. Also, this seems to imply that the wheeling may not be overly aggressive? Well, after +30k and two winters and a fair bit of offroading, and with plans to run em through this winter, my wrangler DuraTrac's are holding strong. They are a 10 ply A/T tire that has the harder rubber for the highway, substantial lugs for the mud and lots of wiping for the snow. They are even studable, I couldn't imagine if mine were studded! Thanks for the response! Most of my wheeling consists of forest service roads, with some rocks here and there. As far as the wear, are yours wearing evenly? How many more miles do you think you will get out of yours?

Gotta give credit to the Goodyears. Here we have Wrangler Territory available, modestly priced (31 x10.5 x15, was $165 on sale each at end of 09, self mounted, run low $200's today), I've got 85000 miles on now, plan to continue running this summer. Happy with them. Excellent traction year round, on and off, all terrain, mud clears well.

 

Make sure the "snow" symbol is on the tire sidewall.

But do you have experience with the DuraTrac's? They are less of an A/T and more of an M/T. As for wear, they wear very evenly. And they have the snow flake badge on them. Trust me they are redonc! They have taken me places this wrangler has gone (6" 33's and dual ARB's)

 

voted goodyear because those are the ones i would buy. just my opinion

 

I had BFG's on my rig, they lasted a long time, but the grip in the snow was lacking.

 

I voted for the Grabber AT2, but I think either those or the duratrac will work just fine.
Others to look at are the Bridgestone Dueler REVO, Falken Wildpeak AT/RockMountain ATS. Best AT tire I have ever owned is the REVO, 2nd is what I have now, which is the Dueler AT 693. I have also had Dayton Timberline AT's and Firestone Destination AT's also great tires.

 

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm considering all of these inputs and hope someone else who has the same question can also get something out of this. I have heard treadlife out of the AT's to be around 50,000...is that a valid statement? And what number could I be looking for for the Duratracs?

 

Have you considered the Goodyear Authority tires? Walmart only but very aggressive. I have a set on my Tacoma.

x2 Everything I've read about these tires has been great. Always at the top of the comparisons - especially given the way you expect to use them. Supposed to be excellent on snow and ice. My next set of tires for sure.

 

From what I am hearing and seeing from the poll, people like the duratracs! If you got pics of them or the BFG's, post them up so I can take a look..
