try some explorer struts they are a lot stronger and work in the cold better

I'm wondering if there isn't an issue with the actual part where they clamp on, though. That's where they've been popping off.

There are some cracks on the hatch, as well.. I'll take a photo later and post it. Maybe that's my issue.

I got them off of eBay new. Set of 4. Can't find the set I bought but I didn't search too terribly hard. ha

The door latches must be lubricated with graphite in an oil base twice a year. Once the latches become stiff the actuators wear out, get weak or won't operate.
Operate the manual lock, if it operates with difficulty (stiff) the door latch needs oiled or replaced. Yes, outside temperature affects the door latches and solenoids, especially once their worn and need replacing.

Once in my wife's 01 one of the wires to the lock in the liftgate were shorting and in turn sometimes all the doors wouldn't unlock. But finally the short got so bad it started blowing fuses. If it's still just a slight short somewhere it may be causing just enough resistance to not be able to unlock all the doors.

Hi All, similar issues on my '96 Grand Laredo, summarizing my findings...
switch itself
wiring between the door and door frame
something stopping its path or it doesn't have enough greese
a bad actuator.
If you have power or the switch makes the door lock attempt to work your wiring is fine for the most part.
sprayed some WD, it works for a bit. Then they start acting up a gain
I found was that the relay in the glove box could be bad for the locks.

Pull your door cards and lube the **** out of all the linkages and mechanisms.

I had a similar issue in my 01 limited. turned out several wires broke inside the drivers door boot. I just matched the colors and soldered them back together and it fixed all my electrical issues. (also a common cause for front speakers that dont work).

1998 XJ pass side is the master control all I did was reheat the solder connection on the board. Bickety Bam all windows and locks work like new.

My '00 the locks would work 99% of the time.
When they did not I could hear a click coming from the passenger side.
I could get out at a store, locks would not work, and literally come out 15 minutes later, and they would.
Once they did not work for almost 3 days though.
So finding out that the passenger side switch controls the locks and having spare used parts swapped it out.
Lasted about a month before they messed up. Threw another used switch in there.
Been 10 months I think.
Problem is I don't really know that it is the switch cause of them being used. LOL.
