91', 4.0. The difference is that I just installed an alternator just purchased from O'reily AND also installed a new jeepcables.com 2g cable kit. So the vehicle has the same exact problems before and after the install of both the alternator and the cable kit.

XJ starts just fine but does all kind of crazy things when running like cutting out in addition to the heating/ac system doing strange things. Based on research in the forums, the computer does crazy stuff when the volts drop.

I had an issue with the jeepcables.com install because I didn't understand an instruction. But a I made contact with a rep today that helped me work through the instruction. All seems to be installed and at least is supporting start up.

Batty is < 6 months old.

Any chance I should suspect the starter solenoid? Battery Voltage - Jeep Cherokee Forum

Help please.

I would look at the wiring that goes though the fire wall and then maybe the ignition switch and wiring . and check the voltage at the battery .

You really e meter to start chasing this. Start my by measuring the voltage at the battery running and not running. I doubt it's your starter solenoid if it's starting okay.

Make sure you have identified all ground locations and take them apart, clean and reattach.

this may help

You said it starts fine, so it's not to do with starter solenoid. It would also not explain the variety of symptoms you describe in your 2nd paragraph.

As suggested, you would greatly benefit from getting a multimeter. It's not as daunting as it seems to work with and you will get a lot of info from a few simple tests that we can help you with along the way.

It would not be the first time that weird (electrical) symptoms be caused by bad grounds so there is your starting point. Go over all grounds connections, take them apart, clean and fasten snug.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Lo and behold, two things went wrong at once. A) The alternator failed. I replaced that and installed the JeepCables.com kit. But also, the voltmeter is bad.

Thanks again.
