Well, i looked around and tried all the things in the forums so I thought I would ask.

First I have a 1999 XJ with 195K on it. It is my hobby vehicle mostly because I keep having minor things break.

Recently the A/C compressor developed a leak and would not hold pressure. I had it evacuated then replaced the compressor. FYI, about 2 years ago I was having trouble with the blower and I tested the voltages at the fan and found about 14 volts so I assumed the fan was bad. I replaced the fan and had no success so I went to my local dealer and replaced the switch panel and the resistor pack all in one go. After that the blower worked fine, noisy but it works. So the switch was bad apparently not the fan. Oh well. Fast forward to today, the blower was fine the new compressor did not cool as well as it once did but I expected that. It all worked great but after work I went to head home and the fan would not come on. I grabbed my multimeter and pulled the plug off the blower and got a 14 V reading on the connector again. I put a couple wires into the connector itself to make getting a reading easier and I get a voltage of 9 volts regardless of the dash switch setting.

It never goes to zero. By the way, i pulled the fan out and it runs find with a 12 volt battery. I have thought of running a wire and patching in a simple toggle switch since the fan is running full time generally anyway.

FYI, all other functions of the A/C are fine. The compressor is pulling down and chilling fine, the A/C control switch is working as is the air direction functionality.

So what do you suggest? What do people do now that these panels are no longer available from Jeep?

 

If you like starting fires in your Jeep, this is a great idea.

Did you check the settings at the resistor? Did you clean and tighten down the grounds?

You could try a junkyard. I believe that the same panel was used in TJ wranglers and possibly even some GC's. I'd find all the years and models that used the panel and go check out the junkyard or ebay. In addition, make sure it's actually bad. More than likely it's deteriorated wiring in the system or a bad ground.

 

Generally the ballast resistor goes, it works by resistance and gets very hot. But when it does, it works on high. I think you have another problem. Check the voltage to the fan, and particularly the ground. If you are getting voltage to various parts of the circuit, then a ground problem is likely
