Replacing the O2 sensors on my Jeep, a 96' XJ 4.0L. As we all know 96' was a weird year for parts. I've had to buy a 97' Coolant temp sensor and a 97' Transfercase bearing because 96' wouldn't fit.

I've decided on NTK O2 sensors, but am unsure of whether to order them for a 96 or a 97. They have different part numbers

Here are the NTK/NGK #'s listed under 1996 for my Sept built '96:
upstream-NGK 23121
downstream-NGK 23014

Go to pic 3/3 in each link to see connector:

Very Strange. Mine is an 8/96' build, my upstream has the same connector as the one you posted but the downstream has one of the connectors grooves off centered. When on Rock Auto's website looking for 96 Delphi vs NTK the downstream connectors are different, NTK isn't correct for me.

But 97' both of them have the same connectors.

I've ordered O2 sensors for a 97. We'll see how it goes!

It's got 8/28/96 on my build sheet and both my O2 sensors are listed for 1996 models. If buying local take your old part/parts with you if possible. Had mine for 10yrs now and it being a '96 hasn't been a big issue. Had one of the two sensors I needed for a gauge panel swap need to be for a '97.
