Default xj/zj d35 question

ok so i know most xj owners dont like this but i have a 99 xj street jeep and im going to swap a older zj d35 rear axle with discs on to mine. i have a d35 with 3.55 gears, from my understanding the zj 4.0 d35 has 3.73 gears. so the question is if anyone knows can i swap the 3.55 guts out of mine and into the zj axle, so basically i have a zj axle with my 3.55 gears.

you can use the ring and pinion yes.. but you'll need to get a new install kit

^^Thats my understanding btw. Wait for someone else to chime in before you take that as word of law because I'm only about 80% sure on that.^^

o cool ya i am going to make custom brackets and everything for the leafs under the axle and torsions bars, but that would be cool then i dont have to change the front gears. i just figure they are both d35s so something should work lol

Just making sure to clarify here, you need to put the XJ gear into the ZJ rear to have the matching.

no just swap the disk brakes to you axle thats under your jeep already.
no need for fabing mounts for leafs. no rebuilding gears. search disk brake swap in the search bar... its like an hour project if your good with tools.... 3 hours if not..

well im just going to get the whole zj axle from the junk yard so i can weld all the bracket then just swap them instead of doing it all to my axle and if i just swap the brakes i will have to make a special shim by the bearings cuz the backing plates are different

with use of an install kit. I'd suggest you use your discount or influence to have the dealer do it.

I can and have installed gears before but for the price they charge... I'd rather pay to have it done than do it again. lol
