XJ worth parting?
Hey guys,
hope this is the right section here. If not, I apoligize to the Admin's in advance. I'm new to the boards here, but not to the Jeep/Automotive world. Small bit of background: My dad is a Jeep guy, and I have a family owned 1991 Jeep XJ with 400,000 miles on it, 100% original and still running like the day Dad drove me home from the hospital in it! I'm currently restoring a 1979 Anniversary Trans Am (super build!) and trying to find additional revenue to fund the build.
The reason for the post is related to a 1999 XJ Sport. A friend of mine blew his head gasket, and cracked the head on his 1999 XJ. It's relatively low miles, and 100% complete minus exhaust past the cats and the passenger side mirror. Plenty of tread on the tires, wheels in great shape, really good condition interior, pretty decent exterior. Jeep ran GREAT before the head gasket blew. Also a sub 130,000 mile Jeep.
I decided to take the blown Jeep off his hands for $400 bucks. Thought that was a pretty fair price on both ends. Now my question is is it worth it to put on a new head/head gasket/water pump and clean it up, or part it out? I'm not sure how the current market for OEM Jeep parts is, or a running Jeep. Any suggestions on what I should do? Part it or fix it? I'm leaning greatly towards parting it. I feel like there is a lot of money to be made.
Thank You
JJ

i personally would probably fix it, parts are generally easy to find and cheap, but as with anything if you have the ambition and time to part it, there's probably more money there.

Thanks for the response! I have one Jeep as is. I bought this one off a fraternity brother in a bind with the HG blew. I've got all the time in the world to part it. I'm already PMing folks about parts, so pretty sure I'm going that way. Hate to chop up a Jeep but other projects call.

It's 2WD. and I've got enough projects as is in the barn. Trying to get money to finish up my Trans Am. It's possible though. We'll see what happens. I feel like there's a good bit to be made on a part.
