ok, its a 98 xj with a reman motor in it. i just bought it today. I drove it around all morning and it ran awesome, great response, i could tell the motor was strong. come back later to pick up title and jeep and we are pulling down his road and it shuts off. Cranks cranks and cranks. No spark. Ive checked up to the plug going into the coil and there is no voltage while key is on. I replaced the CPS thinking that was it but nothing. Its getting fuel just no spark. The motor was replaced recently so im thinking its a bad ground somewhere just gotta find it. Any ideas? i pulled the rotor cap and the rotor spun while cranking over. other than that it seems like a decent jeep, the guy i bought it from is sending the guy over who did the motor swap.

Is there any spark coming from the coil? I had one to go bad

no there is no spark from coil and as stated above there is no voltage going to the back of the coil with the key on

 

Have you checked the auto shutdown relay under the Hood?

 

no which one is that?

 

Let get to the house and I'll check my xj. When you open the fuse box look at the cover and it will have them listed on it cause mine is between the ABS and starter relay
