i got a 97 cherokee sport, 4.0l 6cyl 4x4, it will crank but wont start. i did get it started one time but it ran for 15 seconds and died. anybody have any ideas what the issue may be?

 

Did you check for fuel? Spark?

Have you done any diagnostics?

 

it has fuel in it, it has spark. and i havent ran any diagnostics

 

No, I didn't ask if you had fuel in the tank.

Do you have fuel at the injectors? Do your plugs spark when you've got one pulled out?

Try this. Get some starting fluid. Open up your intake just at the throttle plate. Manually twist it open, spray a bunch of fluid in. Try starting.

If it starts, then you aren't getting fuel to the cylinders. If it doesn't, you aren't getting spark.

If you have fuel and spark, it should start.

 

it worked when i sprayed startin fluid in it

 

either fuel pum probs or no injector pulse

 

I had one that did the same thing if I sprayed starting fluid in the tube it would start right up. Turned out it was the CPS.

 

CPS and a few other things could be the source. Your problem is clearly a fuel delivery problem, use that information to diagnose.

Start by looking into fuel pump, and move forward from there.

And rethink your def of "running diagnostics"
