Default XJ Wheels 15" or 16"

Hello!

I am new to this forum but decided I would have to join to get some advice, and hopefully someone can give me a few answers to my following questions.

I have a 1997 2.5TD Jeep Cherokee Ltd and as I live near the Lake District and tried green laning in a Land Rover 90, I want to now use my Jeep Cherokee and get out and go for it. Currently it is stock, except I have just fitted Diff Guards to both front and rear to add a bit of protection. My main mod is obviously going to be fitting the best tyres, or possibly tyres and wheels that would suit the vehicle.

Currently it sits on 235/75 R15 All Terrain Tyres and I would like to know what people feel are the best size tyre sizes on this rim?

Also if I wanted to purchase tyres and wheels can I put 16” wheels on with corresponding tyres, or would I need to lift the vehicle for this? Would 16” wheels & tyres if they are able to be used massively affect the handling and the gearing of the vehicle?

Any information for a novice much appreciated.

Matt

Ive got on my 98 classic is 235 75 r15 and they do ok for me. I do some wheeling but it depends on all your use for the jeep. How hard you wheel it and if its your daily driver. Most of all, how much money you willing to spend on it.

I believe that there is more choice in tires with a rim size 15 than you will probably find with 16

As far as the tire size, it all depends on whether you keep it stock or lift it...even with a 2" budget boost for under 130 you'll be able to throw at least 30's on it

Just like on any vehicle, the size of the rim will not effect your gearing and power (as longing as your not buying heavy *** big rims like 20 or something...dubs as they call them) as long as the overall heighth of the tire is the same or similar to the ones you have. If you are planning to do a lot of off roading with this truck, go with the smaller rims so you have more tire sidewall. If you are just going for looks go with the bigger rims, they will def look better.

Now this is what I recommend. If you want the truck to have a better stance and want to put some decent usable tires on it, this is what you should do. For 260-70 bucks, you can get a great 3" suspension kit from Rustys Off Road wich will clear 31" tires with no problem. And if your stock suspension is wore out like mine is, this will also improve your ride quality a lot.

My buddy did this and I have ordered my kit and waiting for it to come in. I am going to mount the equivelent to 31 on my stock oems (off of a newer jeep) 17" wheels. Google some images or check out the thousands of pics of people who have done it on this site.

I just bought 15s to replace my 16s. The 16 inch tires are more expensive in the same diameter 15s. Does that make sense? A 30x9.5 15 and a 245/70/16 are pretty much the same size but the 16 are probally $15-20 more per tire. You also get more sidewall with the 15.

Default why 16" tires are more money than 15" inchers.

You're usually getting more belts with a 16" inch tire, so they cost more. 16"s are usually 8 or 10 ply.
