Default XJ tranny problem! PLEASE HELP!!

So i have had my 97 XJ out wheelin for the last 3 days. No problems the 2 previous days... But today it kept wanting to idle down and die and would not shift out of 1st but ever once in a while... And also felt as if it was slipping... Any ideas or info??

Thank you very much. When i bought the jeep i noticed the O2 wires were cut... It hasnt done this before tho. Just curious, how does fuel delivery problems effect the trans?

Try removing the TCU fuse and shifting it manually, see what happens.

You'll probably want to fix that... it won't run properly without the O2 sensor working. The trans is probably a separate issue, but stranger things have happened.

Definitaly fix the 02 wires, that will cause all sorts of problems, check tranny fluid. Could also be the tps as previously stated. Also shifting it manually is a good idea to try to.

Faulty fuel delivery due to the pump/filter clogged or failing, or a sensor like the o2 is making it run "dead lean" can cause a hesitation/buck/slap effect.

I checked trans fluid yesterday and it was dead on full and didnt smell "burnt". Like i said about the o2 wires... They have been that way since i bought it (i kno they still need to be fixed) and have never had ANY problems. So y now??
