Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I have 2000 xj that's begining to rust. I want to take care of it quick because it's only got 95k miles so I want it to last a while. The rear wheel fender is starting to rust as well as the rim. What can I do? It's just surface rust no pitting yet. Thanks
It looks more like road grime to me. The wheel won't rust. Its aluminum. The fender flare won't rust. Its plastic. Try spraying a cleaner on it, like simple grean, or mean grean if you need a more aggressive cleaner, and see if it will polish off.
It's been scrubbed many times with soap and water. I'll have to try some special cleaning products and see what happens. No need to make fun. Thanks though. Once it warms up I'll give it another good scrub and I'll post an update.

You might try Goo Gone. It's a citrus based cleaner that isn't supposed to harm paint. I have used it to remove sticker residue, but it's supposed to work on all sorts of surface stains. Try it on a small, less-visible area first to see if it's going to work.
Make sure you get Goo Gone and NOT Goof Off. Goo Gone is supposed to be paint safe. Goof Off will strip paint. For some stupid reason some stores put them side by side, and people will get to the store remembering they were supposed to get that cleaner that starts with "G" and pick up the wrong one.
Whatever you end up using, make sure you research it first to make sure it's safe on paint and aluminum. Some of the degreasers on the market will take paint right off.

No, I think that's pretty much required in a situation like this. Because you have to admit that was pretty funny. At least you're being a good sport about it.
What have you guys found is the best and safest product to use to remove this stuff? While we're talking about cleaning up the jeep to look better, what are your suggestions for the faded bumper and door trim pieces to get a better look? I'm looking to do something that will last a while. Thanks again

I take a mix of oxiclean, and heavy duty hand cleaner. Get a dish sponge and go to town. After a thorough scrubbing use a power washer to remove the dirt, grime, and other build up.
